I bought a new TV back in July because I love sport generally and the Olympics in particular. Now I knew I wanted something big screen so as to really enhance my Beijing experience but the choice to go just that bit further with HD was the best decision of all.

HD stands for high definition and you know what TV stands for, right? The difference between HDTV and regular TV is clear to see, literally. HD sends out its' images in a much higher resolution. It is a visual experience closer to cinema than to TV. The HDTV screen is and oblong in the ration of sixteen to nine (16 units wide by 9 units tall). The resolution is a sexy 1920 by 1080 just like the cinema. The TV companies broadcast in high definition while regular TV act like a screen between the viewer and the signal. Not so with HD.

It was genuinely the next best thing to being in Beijing. From the opening ceremony with its torch-bearer running in 'slo-mo' around the whole stadium to the underwater tumble turns of Micheal Phelps, every screening was a joy. It was a whole screen experience too. Without those nuisance black bars top and bottom of the screen.

Due to the greater amount of bandwidth, the colors on an HDTV set will look more realistic. An HDTV set is 2 to 5 times more detailed visually than normal television sets. You'll barely be able to see the scanning lines, if you can see them at all. This increase in clarity and detail makes high definition television more pleasing to watch. Aging Action Star Is Back

As L.L. Cool J famously rapped, 'Don't call it a come-back. I've been here for years'. So too has Jean-Claude Van Damme. Once a world famous action star, now more of a straight to video action star, he's managed to stay working, but not at the level that we once remember. To everyone's surprise, however, he's just made a movie that's actually being taken seriously

For the very young or very new action move fans: Jean-Claude Van Damme is a muscular, handsome, world-famous action hero that started training in martial arts at age 11. He retired from his active competition with an 18-1 (18 knockouts) record to pursue a movie career.

An important note: Before he retired, he had a rematch with Patrick Teugels, the only man to defeat him. Van Damme came out punching and kicking, but his overwhelming aggression was too much for Teugels. The match was halted in under the 2-minute mark.

Muscular and handsome, Van Damme has an impressive physique and in nearly every Van Damme film, he usually executes a masterful split. The characters he portrays are usually softer than the typical invincible or unrefined action hero that Schwarzenegger or Stallone portrays. He never managed to achieve blockbuster status in America in his prime, yet he has been in almost 40 movies and has unchallenged worldwide appeal.

His new film, appropriately titled JCVD, is garnering real attention on the festival circuit. Van Damme plays a character not far distant from his real life persona. More than just a comedy, the movie promises to give us real depth of character.

And apparently, JCVD himself manages to give a stellar performance. Again, I know that you're surprised, but apparently, the star of such cinematic wonders as Cyborg and Universal Soldier has had some unused talents.

The trailer for the film, located at www.apple.com/trailers/independent/jcvd/, reveals a really nice look to it. Most of the color has been taken from the frame. And the editing and music choices evoke a late 60's/early 70's grooviness.

The movie also looks really funny. There's a great joke at the beginning of the trailer, where an out of breath Van Damme cries to his young Asian director, 'I'm 47 years-old and it's very hard for me to do everything in one shot.'

A routine visit to the bank lands the actor smack dab in the middle of a bank heist. The movie seems to promise some action sequences where the famously limber 'Muscles from Brussels' gets to show off his moves in a real life scenario. The movie looks fun and substantial. I can't wait to see it.

He was part of a violent Los Angeles gang, that he somehow got away from. When a bad twist of fate shows where he lives to his old gang leader, he and his family are put in grave danger. He has no choice but to take a chance, and ensure that the gang can move a large drug shipment from Mexico into the U.S.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK: This feature film tells a story about Military scientist Dr. Bruce Banner, who is now, due to a military accident, has become the Incredible Hulk. The movie is an epic tale of the marvel comic character the green Hulk. Edward Norton is the top star in this film. This film is directed by Louis Leterrier. The film style is sci-fi/action-thriller.

THE HAPPENING: Science teacher Elliot Moore, with his wife and many other frightened people are leaving Philadelphia by train. The northeastern U.S. has been thrown into chaos. People have been overwhelmed by some strange illness, and are taking their own lives. Can we overcome this problem, or are we witnessing the final acts of the human race?

IRON MAN: Super stud, engineering expert, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is taken hostage by Afghan fighters. They command him to create weapon systems for the insurgent group. He was hurt while he was being captured, and has shrapnel stuck in his chest. To overcome his wound, and make his get away, he develops a suit of armor, that makes him super strong. Iron Man is born.

SPEED RACER: A cartoon from the 90's is now a movie hit. Similar to the movie The Flinstones, Speed Racer was a TV cartoon that was turned into a feature film with actors. Speed Racer is a young man who loves racing. His goal is to win The Crucible, a major rally car race that had taken the life of his older brother. With the odds stacked against him, and his families business at stake, Speed Racer teams with his old rival Racer X, in an effort to capture the championship, and save the family business.

A Castle in Death Valley

Now why anyone would want to live in Death Valley is beyond me but here but Albert Mussey Johnson decided to built his vacation home in Death Valley. It was supposedly built with the money from the gold mine that he had backed but in fact, there was no gold mine and so it was certainly not built with funds from one.

Walter Scott had gotten Mr. Johnson to invest in a mine that didn't exist. It wasn't a bad deal for Mr. Scott until Mr. Johnson decided to come and see the mine for himself. There was no mine. Pretty hard to keep excited about investing in a mine that doesn't exist.

Mr. Johnson and his wife liked Walter Scott, even after the knowledge that there was no mine. Mr. Johnson became enamored by Death Valley and with the encouragement of his wife built a vacation retreat. Although the retreat was actually named Death Valley Ranch it became known as Scotty's Castle.

The alure of seeing the retreat built by the "richest gold miner in California" was a huge attraction to the rich and famous. They came to see just what that type of money could buy. Mr. Johnson never told that there was no mine. It would have taken some of the charm away from the retreat to know it was built with money he had earned in other ventures and not the mine.

There are guided tours available at the castle for those of you wanting to visit. With interactive displays, living history exhibits and all inside the house it will be a treat to see. The tours are available daily on the hour.

There is a second tour that you can take while at the castle. It is the tour of the underground area of the castle. It shows you the technology incorporated a the time to produce electricity and see the 1/4 mile underground tunnel system that runs under the house.

Thanks for the National Park Service the castle is maintained for people to visit. Technology from the past and present are both used in the lower level of the castle to keep it functioning as it should. You will enjoy the tour and the history of the castle.

With bundled services, consumers can typically get up to three different home telecommunications services itemized together on a single bill. The rationale behind this phenomenon is that consumers will have the convenience of having to deal with only one monthly bill for their communications services, rather than two or three.

Consumers also experience savings because most companies will provide a discount on bundled services in exchange for the increased revenue of providing a household with more than one service.

While a lot of different telecommunications companies provide bundled services, some do a better job of it than others. For example, one common shortcoming of some bundled telecommunications services takes place when a company farms out some of the services to other companies rather than taking responsibility for those additional services themselves. For example, it attain download speeds over six times faster than what DSL is capable of, and four times faster than what satellite Internet. Plus, the fact that Comcast's high speed Internet service uses the same digital cable that delivers cable TV service means that you can do without a phone line entirely if you choose to go with a VoIP option. This simply isn't possible with DSL because DSL requires a phone line, and VoIP applications won't work with satellite Internet service because of the time lag created by the fact that the satellites are thousands of miles above the surface of the Earth.

Even if you want a more conventional phone service than VoIP, Comcast can provide that as well with it's digital voice service. Again, Comcast takes full responsibility for the phone service rather than acting as the middleman between you and the phone company. This allows it to offer features and value that traditional phone services don't.

While there are a lot of companies offering packages of bundled services, Comcast serves as an example of some of the better ways to implement this idea.

It used to be that a dial up modem capable of 56 Kbps provided enough speed for most people to enjoy the Internet from the comfort of their own home. Thanks to the growing complexity of the Internet and the increasing amount of multimedia entertainment available on the World Wide Web, a mere dial up connection really doesn't satisfy anybody these days.
